What is considered a small group?
Any business with 2 to 50 employees where an employeremployee relationship can be established qualifies for small group underwriting consistent with the requirements of California legislation AB1672 
What are the advantages of small business health insurance?
Under AB1672, small business health insurance is considered “guaranteed issue”. The most an insurance company can charge a small group above its standard published rates is 10% as a risk adjustment factor (RAF). In addition, group health insurance is often an effective employee recruitment and retention tool that allows an employer to attract some of the best available talent.
Which employees are eligible for coverage in a small group?
Any similarly situated employees that employer wishes to cover. For example an employer may chose to cover all full time employees and exclude part time employees; or cover full time and part time employees as well. However an employer may not cover some part time employees and exclude others. Depending on the selected insurance coverage, there are participation requirements with small business health insurance plans, typically ranging from 60% to 75%.
Who is considered a full time employee?
Any employee who has earned wages for a minimum of 30 hours per week for at least 50% of the prior calendar quarter and meets applicable labor regulations.
Who is considered a part time employee?
Any employee who has earned wages for a minimum of 20 hours but not more than 29 hours per week for at least 50% of the prior calendar quarter and meets applicable labor regulations.
